ST. LOUIS—Saint Louis University men’s head soccer coach Dan Donigan today announced that sophomore midfielder Brad Davis (St. Charles, Mo. /Chaminade) has signed a contract with Major League Soccer to turn professional after two stand-out seasons for the Billikens. Davis has most recently been training with the U.S. Under-23 National Team in Claremont, Calif.
"We’re excited for Brad, because this is in his best long-term interests for his soccer career," Billikens head coach Dan Donigan said. "Brad wants to work his way toward playing on the U.S. Olympic Team and eventually for the National Team in the World Cup. This is a positive step in that direction for him."
A Hermann Trophy candidate and National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) second-team All-America, Davis tied Syracuse’s Jarett Park as the national leader in assists. With 34 points (10G, 14A), he became one of only eight Billikens to reach double figures in goals and assists in a single season. Davis’ compiled 62 points (21G, 20A) in his two-year collegiate areer.
"We’re losing a great player," Donigan said. "But we have a solid nucleus of talented players returning, a talented freshmen class coming in and we’ll continue to put an entertaining team on the field that’s capable of competing for the national championship."
The 2001 C-USA champion Billikens (18-2-0) were ranked second nationally entering the NCAA Tournament and reached the quarterfinal round of the NCAA Tournament before being eliminated by Stanford.
