2000 Conference USA Men's Soccer Accomplishments

  • Three Conference USA teams were nationally-ranked during the 2000 season, with two others receiving votes in at least one of the national polls. Two teams were ranked in the top 20 of the final polls for the second straight season.

  • Eight of the nine teams were regionally-ranked in the NSCAA regional polls. Five C-USA schools finished the 2000 season regionally-ranked. Saint Louis finished No. 2 and Memphis was No. 6 in the Midwest Region, UAB was No. 3 in the South Region, Louisville was No. 5 and Marquette No. 8 in the Great Lakes Region.

  • Conference USA teams played a total of 19 non-conference matches against teams that were nationally-ranked at the time they played them. C-USA went 8-10-1 in those games, with five one-goal losses.

  • Six Conference USA schools posted at least one victory against a team that was nationally-ranked this season.

  • Six C-USA schools had winning non-conference records. Overall, C-USA schools won 59 percent of their non-conference matches.

  • For the third time in the last four years, Conference USA had six teams that won 10 or more matches. Saint Louis, UAB, Memphis, Louisville, South Florida and Marquette all won at least 10 times. Six teams also reached the 10-win plateau in 1998 and 1997.

  • Conference USA tied the ACC, Big East and Missouri Valley Conferences as the leagues with most teams with 10 or more wins.

  • Two teams established new school records for victories in a season (Louisville and Memphis).

  • A competitive conference schedule forced the conference champion to lose at least one league match for the fifth consecutive season.

  • Of Conference USA's 36 conference matches, 12 went to overtime, with four ending in a tie. A total of 18 matches were decided by just one goal. In addition, four of the five matches at the conference tournament were decided by one goal.

  • Conference USAS faced 77 non-conference opponents this past season and 43 of those teams finished with a winning record.

  • Conference USA had three players named to Soccer America's Team of the Week.

    Conference USA Men's Soccer History:

  • The league has produced 14 NCAA Tournament appearances in its six-year history, with two teams advancing to the Final Four and four playing in the final eight.

  • Twice Conference USA has advanced a team to the College Cup (Saint Louis in 1997 and Charlotte in 1996).

  • C-USA has advanced four different schools (Charlotte, Saint Louis, South Florida and UAB) to the final eight of the NCAA championship over the last five years.

  • Conference USA's four appearances in the Final Eight over that period is the third highest total of any conference.

  • The teams that comprise C-USA have combined to make 58 NCAA Tournament appearances all-time.

  • All nine Conference USA teams have defeated at least one nationally-ranked opponent within the last four seasons.

  • Twenty-one C-USA players have earned All-American honors in the league's first six seasons. Four players have earned Academic All-American honors during that time.

  • Conference USA has placed 45 players on Soccer America's Team of the Week since 1995.
