Charlotte Men's Soccer Announces Signing of Five Recruits
Charlotte, N.C. - Charlotte 49ers men's soccer coach John Tart announced, today, the signing of five players to National Letters-of-Intent for the upcoming 2002 season. Tart welcomes Sean Flanagan, Floyd Franks, Coleman Hall, John Nabers and Sean Zubick to the 2002 roster.
"Overall, we are very pleased and excited about our recruiting class," Charlotte coach John Tart said. "We feel that these five recruits will make an impact and fill several needs that we have in our program."
Sean Flanagan, a midfielder from Franktown, Colorado's Ponderosa High School, is a member of the Colorado Olympic Development Program. He was captain of the state cup champion Real Colorado Club team. He was MVP of his school team that won the region IV championship. He was a high school teammate of current 49ers midfielder Brett Baker.
"Sean has a tremendous work ethic," Tart said. "He is able to cover a lot of ground with his speed. He is a great team player that definitely adds much needed depth in the midfield."
Floyd Franks, a midfielder from Vestavia, Alabama's Vestavia High School, is a region III ODP player. He is a member of the Vestavia Steamers club team. He earned All-State honors this season. He was also part of the Alabama state championship 4x100 relay team.
"Floyd will play in the midfield," Tart said. "He play with good pace and is capable of covering a lot of ground. He is a skillful player that we look to have in either center or wide midfield."
Coleman Hall, a midfielder from Asheville High School in North Carolina, is a region III and North Carolina ODP player. He was a member of the Charlotte Soccer Club team that won the region III championships and reached the national semifinals. He will join former Charlotte soccer club players Rob Evitts, Tim Flavin and Joel Wisdo on the Charlotte roster this upcoming season. He was named North Carolina High School Player of the Year as he helped lead his team to the state title this past season.
"Coleman plays for the Charlotte soccer club," Tart said. "So, he enters our program already familiar with several of our players that played with the Charlotte soccer club. He will help us in the midfield and in back. He has had a great senior year and is a very solid, steady player."
John Nabers, a defender from San Antonio, Texas' Ronald Reagan High School, is a member of the South Texas ODP team. He earned All-State honors in his career. He played for the state cup championship Austin Capitals club team.
"We expect John Nabers to play defender," Tart said. "He is a very skilled left-footed player. He is strong in back but he is also capable of supporting the attack. He plays with a great deal of composure."
Sean Zubick, a midfielder from Brampton, Ontario's Notre Dame Secondary school, is a U-20 Canadian national pool player. He played for the national champion North Missesauga Panthers club team. He has trained with England's First Division Norwich City and Gillingham teams.
"Sean is a left-footed player that will play wide midfield for us," Tart said. "He is very creative with the ball and he will give us added presence in the attack."
These five recruits join 10 returning starters and 16 returning letterwinners to make up the 2002 team which opens their season with an exhibition match with Wake Forest, August 19.
