Tulsa's Chris Clements Named to U.S. U-20 Men's National Soccer Team
March 23, 2006 Tulsa, Oklahoma - University of Tulsa freshman Chris Clements was one of 23 players from around the nation to be named to the United States Under-20 Men's National Team. All the players selected were born after Jan. 1, 1987, and the team began preparations to qualify for the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup earlier this month in Sunrise, Fla. A 6'2" defender from Allen, Texas, Clements started in 20 of 21 games on TU's back-line during his rookie season, and helped the Golden Hurricane to a 7-7-7 overall record and to the championship game of the 2005 Conference USA Tournament in Tulsa's first year as a league member. Clements, who helped the TU defense register shutouts against UCF and No. 3 Creighton, was named to the C-USA all-Freshman Team. Head Coach Thomas Rongen, who was just named head coach this week, invited in mainly college players, with Josmer Altidore (MetroStars) being the only professional player on the roster. Out of the 23 players, eight are still in high school, including four players that are currently in U.S. Soccer's U-17 Residency Program - Altidore, Jeremy Hall, Eric Lichaj and Anthony Wallace. Sixteen players were born in 1987, four in 1988 and three in 1989. The team dropped its first match, 1-0, to Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids on March 10. The team will regroup for a tournament in Argentina in the middle of April. U-20 MNT Roster
