Robert R. Hermann Stadium Dedicated
ST. LOUIS (Oct. 26) - Formerly known as The Billiken Sports Center, the Saint Louis University
soccer stadium was re-named Robert R. Hermann Stadium on October 27. Dedication
ceremonies, included remarks by Mr. Hermann, University president Lawrence Biondi,
SJ and director of athletics Doug Woolard. A new scoreboard also was unveiled.
The Hermann Trophy is named for Robert R. Hermann, who is the former chairman of
the executive committee of the North American Soccer League and one of its
founders. The Hermann Trophy is college soccer's oldest and most prestigious award.
It is college soccer's equivalent to the Heisman Trophy and is awarded annually to the
most valuable male and female collegiate soccer players. Three former Billikens have
received the Hermann Trophy ? Al Trost (1969, 1970), Mike Seerey (1971, 1972) and
Dan Counce (1973).
Hermann is a native St. Louisan with a history of civic involvement. He is the board
chairman and CEO of Hermann Companies, Inc.
