IRVING, Texas - Conference USA added four more wins to the men's soccer season Friday night as South Carolina, Marshall, Kentucky and FIU each emerged victorious in season openers. In the Fox Sports Channel NSCAA College Game of the Week, South Carolina took a 2-0 win over Clemson, the fourth-straight victory over the rival for the Gamecocks. Marshall earned its first win of the season, defeating Oakland by a 1-0 margin. Kentucky started its season with a 1-0 win over Eastern Illinois, while FIU topped Illinois-Chicago, 1-0, in a double-overtime match.

• In front of a record-setting crowd of 6,157, South Carolina earned its fourth-consecutive victory over rival Clemson as the Gamecocks took a 2-0 contest as the Fox Soccer Channel's NSCAA College Game of the Week. After a scoreless first half, senior Blake Brettschneider (Lilburn, Ga.) took advantage of a quick breakaway and netted the game winner in the 46th minute. The goal was the 13th of his career and was also the second game winner that he has claimed against Clemson. In the 66th minute, senior Will Traynor (St. Charles, Mo.) connected for a goal-scoring header. Senior goalkeeper Jimmy Maurer (Lawrenceville, Ga.) earned his 20th career shutout, placing him fifth in the Gamecock record books.
• Marshall freshman Anthony Virgara (Pittsburgh, Pa.) collected his first career goal for the Thundering Herd as he finished a rebounded shot in the 54th minute to lift Marshall to a 1-0 victory at Oakland. The win is the first for the Marshall squad. During the match, the Herd outshot the Golden Grizzlies, 11-8, and also held the cornerkick advantage at 7-5.
• In their first career collegiate games, Kentucky freshmen Tyler Beadle (Douglasville, Ga.) and Tyler Riggs (Louisville, Ky.) provided heroics as Riggs scored his first career goal and Beadle toiled a clean sheet in his first career contest, leading the Wildcats to a season-opening 1-0 win over Eatern Illinois. In front of a crowd of 1,003, Kentucky displayed a powerful offensive attack, registering 21 shots, 10 of which were on goal.
• After 100 minutes of a scoreless contest, FIU sophomore Michael Muehseler (Garbsen, Germany) scored the unassisted, game-winning golden goal for the Panthers, starting the FIU season on a winning foot. The goal was Muehseler's first as a Panther.
