SMU junior midfielder Bruno Guarda and UAB sophomore goalkeeper Wes Johnson have been named the Conference USA Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively. It is the first weekly honor for both. Guarda, the C-USA preseason player of the year, scored a goal and was credited with two assists to lead the Mustangs to a 5-1 victory over No. 3 Virginia and a 1-0 shutout of Georgetown. Johnson was credited with a pair of shutouts as the Blazers defeated Lipscomb (3-0) and Centenary (4-0).

Guarda scored a goal and was credited with an assist in the Mustangs 5-1 rout of No. 3 Virginia on Friday in the first round of the SMU Mi Cocina Classic. He also fed a pass to teammate Gabe Arredondo for the game-winning goal in Sunday's 1-0 victory against Georgetown. The 2006 C-USA Player of the Year picks up his first weekly award.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK

Johnson played impressively in the net to help the Blazers to a pair of shutout victories over the weekend. Against Lipscomb on Friday night, Johnson made four saves en route to picking up his first shutout of the season and fourth of his career in a 3-0 UAB victory. Sunday against Centenary, Johnson only played the opening 45 minutes as the Blazers built an insurmountable 4-0 lead. Johnson, who has not allowed a goal in 144 consecutive minutes, racked up five saves in the Blazers' two wins.
