Two C-USA Men's Soccer Players Earn National Honors
|
CHICAGO - A pair of Conference USA players, Saint Louis midfielder Mike Hill and UAB senior forward Martin Rey, were named to Soccer America's Team of the Week, the publication announced Wednesday.
Hill was instrumental in a pair of victories for the No.3-ranked Billikens last week, recording key assists in Conference USA victories over DePaul (3-0) and Memphis (3-2). At 8-0-0, Saint Louis is off to its best start since 1983 and will return to action on Saturday at Cincinnati.
Rey scored the Blazers' first two goals in a 3-0 win over No. 9 South Florida on October 5 and added a goal and an assist in the 2-0 win over Alabama A&M on October 7. Rey has scored six goals in the last six matches and is now tied for seventh on UAB's career goals list with 20. The 8-1-0 Blazers are ranked as high as No. 8 in this week's national rankings and will host Louisville on Friday.
Hill and Rey are the fourth and fifth Conference USA players to earn National Player of the Week honors from Soccer America this season. In its first seven seasons, C-USA has placed a total of 50 players on SA's Team of the Week.
