Soccer America selected saint Louis sophomore forward Will John and College Soccer News tabbed Billiken junior midfielder Ryan Wileman to their respective national Teams of the Week for the period ending Oct. 10. The duo accounted for every Billikens goal in wins over Southwest Missouri State and No. 24 UAB last week.
"Both Will and Ryan are certainly deserving of the recognition that they've received this week," Billikens head coach Dan Donigan said. "Each scored critical goals in big games as we came from behind to win both. In particular, Will is a marked man, but he keeps getting his points."
A Hermann Trophy candidate, John earlier this week was named Conference USA Offensive Player of the Week. John scored twice, including the game winner, and assisted on the Billikens' other goal in a 3-2 triumph over intrastate rival SMS on Wed., Oct. 6. He assisted on Wileman's game winner as the Billikens topped UAB 2-1 on Sat., Oct. 9. John leads Conference USA in scoring with 21 points (9G, 3A).
Wileman is the Billikens' second-leading scorer with a career-high 15 points (6G, 3A). He accounted for both goals against UAB and scored the Bills' first goal against SMS.
"It's obvious that Ryan has come into his own and become a true leader for us both on and off the field," Donigan said. "That bicycle kick goal against UAB off a rebound was one of the best goals that we've seen in quite a while."
Saint Louis (6-4-1 overall, 3-1-1 C-USA) travels to Louisville on Sat., Oct. 16, for a 6 p.m. (CT) kick-off at Cardinal Field.
