    Blazers Shut Out South Florida 2-0

    BIRMINGHAM, Ala. -- David Clemente recorded four saves and UAB scored two second-half goals to defeat South Florida 2-0 in Conference USA play Sunday afternoon at UAB's West Campus Field.

    The Blazers have won four straight and are 8-3-1 overall and 2-1-1 in C-USA. South Florida fell to 7-8 and 1-4 in the league.

    Jermie Frankson broke up the defensive battle with a goal from in front at the 62:12 mark of the game. Frankson's goal came off a deflected Martin Rey pass. Frankson later had an assist on the second goal as Houston Smith scored on a header at the 70:31 point of the match.

    The key to the game was Clemente. With UAB leading 1-0 Clemente stopped two close in shots within seconds of each other. After the Blazers finally gained control of the ball, South Florida was unable to attempt another shot the remainder of the game. Three of Clemente's saves came in the second half off six USF shots.

    Both teams had nine shots each. The Bulls goalkeeper Troy Perkins recorded three saves, all in the first half.

    UAB plays at Conference-USA foe Memphis, Wednesday night at 7 p.m. and plays at home next Sunday against Cincinnati.


    Charlotte Falls to No. 18 Wake Forest 3-2 in Overtime

    CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The Charlotte men's soccer team rallied with two second half goals to tie the match at 2-2 in regulation. However, Wake Forest scored the game winning goal five minutes into the first overtime to defeat Charlotte 3-2 in men's soccer action.

    Wake Forest scored first when Charlotte committed a foul inside the penalty box with just about two and half minutes gone in the match. Ben Stafford put the Demon Deacons on the board first when he connected on the subsequent penalty kick.

    Wake Forest increased their lead to 2-0 when Jaron Barbee connected on a goal off assists from Jamal Seale and Andy Rosenbrand at the 36:47 mark of the match.

    Charlotte cut the Wake Forest lead to 2-1 when Juan Munoz-Airey connected on an unassisted goal just inside the box at the 73:30 mark of the match.

    Charlotte tied the score at 2-2 when C.J. Robinson connected on a diving header that found the back of the net off an assist Ntando Tsambo with just under five minutes left in the match sending the contest into overtime.

    Wake Forest won the match when Jeremiah White connected on a goal off an assist from Ben Stafford just five minutes into overtime.
