DePaul Men's Soccer Loses Match At Northern Illinois

Looking for their first win of the season, the DePaul men's soccer team lost, 6-2, at Northern Illinois on Wednesday. The Blue Demons scored the match's first goal, but were unable to hold the lead as they allowed five Huskie goals in the first half.

Freshman Travis Brown scored his fourth goal of the season to give the Blue Demons the early 1-0 lead. Brown took a Shane Hudson pass and shot it past Northern Illinois goalkeeper Rasih Pala at 14:10. The Huskies answered the DePaul goal with five first-half scores to take a 5-1 lead at halftime.

In the second half, Chris Greer scored DePaul's second goal of the match in the 46th minute. The junior scored his fourth goal of the year on a header off a free kick from Sean Fitzpatrick. The final goal of the match came at 53:31 when Rob Berkley scored on a breakaway for Northern Illinois.

With the loss, the Blue Demons dropped to 0-13 on the season. The next match for DePaul be Saturday night when they travel to Louisville. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

UC Men's Soccer Battles Saint Louis to 0-0 Draw

CINCINNATI, Ohio -- The University of Cincinnati men's soccer team battled No. 11 Saint Louis to a 0-0 draw in St. Louis, Mo., on Wednesday night. With the tie, Cincinnati snapped a four match win streak for the Billikens. It was the first draw of the season for the Bearcats.

The Billikens outshot the Bearcats, 14-5, but were only outshot 3-2 in the extra periods. Senior midfielder Ryan Schreck (Flower Mound, Texas/Marcus) and freshman Tim Brown (Wellington, New Zealand/Wellington College) each had two shots.

Freshman goalkeeper Sacha Nathu (Wellington, New Zealand/Kings College) recorded his fourth shutout of the season, stopping five shots.

"I thought we were just a step away from getting one in the goal at the end of the match," said head coach Jeff Cook. "In terms of possession, I think our team played extremely well. Although they outshot us, their shots came from long range and we played well defensively."

Cincinnati is next in action when it travels to Birmingham, Ala., to take on UAB at 7 p.m. CST.

Blazers Win Fifth Straight in Overtime Over Memphis

UAB won its fifth straight match when Juan Carlos Deras scored in the 107th minute to give the Blazers a 2-1 double overtime Conference USA win on the road over Memphis.

The Blazers win broke a five match win streak for Memphis, who fell to 9-4 overall and 4-2 in Conference. UAB is now 9-3-1 overall and 3-1-1 in C-USA play. Memphis came into the match in second place in the league, while the Blazers are fourth.

It was the third time in the last four matches the Blazers went to overtime. All three have been on the road.

Like the previous two overtime wins, the opposition took a second half lead when Memphis scored on a Tommy White goal at the 57:58 mark.

Jermie Frankson tied the score at 77:26 with a goal on an assist from Roberto Najarro. Frankson has scored in two straight matches and three of the last four.

UAB outshot Memphis 21-11 for the match. The Blazers outshot the Tigers 4-1 in the first overtime, but could not get a goal across. Deras' goal came on the only shot of the second overtime, 1:50 after the period started.

UAB continues conference play Sunday as it hosts Cincinnati at 2 p.m. at UAB's West Campus Field.
