Blue Demons Fall to South Florida
The DePaul men's soccer team failed to hold on to a 2-0 first-half
lead as they lost to the visiting South Florida Bulls, 4-2. The Blue Demons
held a 2-1 advantage at halftime, but two goals by Greg Krauss and a goal by
Jason Cudjoe in the second half was too much.
The Blue Demons took the early lead in the 11th minute as Ed Kiefer
scored his second goal of the season off a pass from Shane Hudson. Hudson
dribbled down the left side of the field and hit Kiefer with a pass 10 yards
in front of the net. For Hudson, it was his fourth assist of the year.
At 33:28, Hudson gave the Blue Demons a 2-0 lead with his third goal
of the year off a free kick from Travis Brown. Hudson headed the ball from
the left side of the goal off the free kick from Brown.
From that point, South Florida's Krauss took over. He scored the
Bulls' first goal of the match in the 33rd minute. After Jason Cudjoe tied
the match at 2-2 at 59:33, Krauss added the final two goals of the match.
Krauss' second goal of the match came in the 78th minute as he scored the
game-winner off a throw in from Paul Scrivens. The final goal of the match
came in the 83rd minute when Krauss beat DePaul goalkeeper Jash Chavero.
With the loss, the Blue Demons stayed winless at 0-15 overall and
0-7 in the conference while South Florida improved to 2-4 in the league and
9-8 overall with the win. The final two matches of the year for the Blue
Demons will be at Wish Field as they host Valparaiso on Friday and Marquette
on November 1.
