Eleven C-USA Men's Soccer Players Earn ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District Honors

IRVING, Texas - Eleven Conference USA Men’s Soccer Players were honored with selection to the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District teams on Thursday. To be eligible for Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must hold at least a 3.3 grade point average and be a sophomore in academic and athletic standing. The 11 selections are the most for the league since 2006 and the second-most selections in league history. South Carolina had three selections in District III as sophomores Jimmy Maurer and Sam Arthur were named to the first team and classmate Will Traynor was named to the second team. The award is the first for all three student-athletes. Maurer has enjoyed a stellar season in net for Carolina. His most recent shutout against Marshall on Oct. 25 marked his seventh of the season. He has collected four Conference USA Defensive Player of the Week awards in 2008, which ties for the most-ever C-USA weekly awards in one season. Arthur has 11 goals in 15 contests this season, also contributing three assists for a total of 25 points. He has been named to numerous teams of the week and garnered TopDrawerSoccer.com Player of the Week accolades on Sept. 16. Traynor has played a crucial role on the South Carolina defensive line that has allowed just 13 goals for the year. He has also contributed one goal for the Gamecock offense. Tulsa’s three selections in District VI were Zach Nulisch, Kyle Corrie and Killian Poeschk. Corrie has started eight of 16 games this season and has one goal and three assists for five points, while attempting six shots from his defender position. Nulisch has started 12 of 16 games this season, and has two goals and two assists for six points, while Poeschk, has started six of 14 games this season and 10 of 37 contests in his career. Kentucky and UAB each had two student-athletes named to the District IV team, while Memphis was represented by Robert Sausaman. Chad Hagerty and Tim Crone were the Wildcat representatives. Hagerty has led the Wildcats with five assists in 2008, while playing in 15 of 16 games. Crone ranks second on the team with five goals, adding two assists, while playing in all 16 games. A native of Cincinnati, Ohio, Crone played in 784 minutes and totaled a team-best three game-winning goals. UAB was represented by senior Dean Sorrell and junior Wes Johnson. Sorrell has played in 16 games, registering one goal on seven shots this season. Johnson has started 11 games in goal and has made 41 saves, for a .774 save percentage. He has only given up 12 goals on the season and has one shutout to his credit. Sausaman was named to the academic all-district team in 2006 and has been named to the Tiger Academic 30 for three of his six semesters. He has also been named to the C-USA Academic Team in two of three of his seasons as a Tiger and has been named to the C-USA Academic Honor Roll in all three of his seasons in the Blue and Gray.
