Ten C-USA Men's Soccer Players Earn Academic All-District Honors

IRVING, Texas – Ten Conference USA men’s soccer players were named to the CoSIDA (College Sports Information Directors of America) ESPN the Magazine All-District teams on Thursday. To be eligible for Academic All-District honors, student-athletes must hold at least a 3.3 grade point average and be a sophomore in academic and athletic standing. C-USA placed nine student-athletes on the All-District first teams, third most in C-USA history, who are now eligible to earn NCAA Academic All-America honors in men’s soccer later this year.

2009 C-USA Academic All-District Honorees

Kentucky had three selections on the District IV first team. Led by two-time selection Tim Crone, the Wildcats were also represented by senior D Tim Muessig and junior MF Tyler Burns. Crone and Burns are both double majors in business and finance and play key factors on the Wildcat offense. Muessig is a force on throw-ins for UK and carries a 3.75 GPA as a marketing major.

Junior Chris Taylor and senior forward Kilian Poeschk of Tulsa were named to the District VI first team. Taylor has started every game of his career and is an economics major with a 3.70 GPA. Poeschk made the transition from defender to forward this season and has proven to be a force on and off the field. The Berlin, Germany native has tallied 12 points this season, while maintaining a 3.91 GPA as a finance major. This is his third-consecutive first-team honor.

South Carolina’s Jimmy Mauer and Sam Arthur garnered District III first-team honors. Mauer also earned the award a year ago as a sophomore and holds a 3.91 GPA as a double major in finance and marketing with a minor in sport and entertainment management. The Lawrenceville, Ga., native has played every minute in the net for the Gamecocks and has tallied five shutouts on the season. Arthur is a business student with a 3.78 GPA, while pacing the Gamecock offense in goals, shots and points.

Sophomore F Parker Duncan of Memphis was also named to the District IV first team as a biology major. The Johnson City, Tenn., native currently owns a 3.99 GPA and leads the Tigers in goals and points.

Adam Still of SMU earned District VI first team honors as a business major with a 3.93 GPA. The sophomore has started every match this season for the Mustangs at the defender position.

Rounding out the C-USA men’s soccer selections is senior Matt Dickerson of Marshall. The Warsaw, Ohio native owns a 3.80 GPA as a double major in accounting and finance and has been a key defender for the Herd this season.
