Charlotte forward Adam Ruud and Memphis goalkeeper Sebastian Vecchio claimed the C-USA Offensive and Defensive Player of the Week awards, respectively. Ruud led the 49ers to a pair of victories including a 4-1 triumph of DePaul that secured the team’s berth in the upcoming C-USA Men’s Soccer Tournament. Vecchio was stellar between the pipes for the Tigers once again as Memphis captured the top-seed in the upcoming league tournament with a 2-0 victory over No. 17 UAB.
OFFENSIVE PLAYERS OF THE WEEK
Adam Ruud, Charlotte
Junior, Forward, Hanover Park, Ill.
Ruud scored two goals and had an assist in a pair of Charlotte home wins over N.C. State and DePaul last week. The junior assisted on the 49ers' first goal in a 2-1 victory over the Wolfpack, while adding a pair of goals, including the game-winner in a 4-1 victory over DePaul. Ruud’s 11 goals this season are the most by a 49er since All C-USA performer Matthys Barker netted 11 during the 1996 campaign.
DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Sebastian Vecchio, Memphis
Senior, Goalkeeper, Buenos Aires, Argentina
Vecchio came up with seven saves and recorded his fifth shutout of the season as the Tigers’ captured at least a share of the C-USA regular season title with a 2-0 defeat of UAB. The 1-0 blanking was the second shutout in five days over a nationall-ranked opponent for Vecchio.
