Tulsa Claims Third-Straight C-USA Men's Soccer Regular Season Title

IRVING, Texas - The Tulsa Golden Hurricane (11-4-2, 6-1-1) earned its third consecutive Conference USA regular season title and will be the No. 1 seed in the 2009 C-USA Men's Soccer Championship. By claiming the top seed, Tulsa also earns hosting rights for this year's championship which will be held Nov. 13-15 at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium.

Four C-USA teams advanced to the league championship, which begins Friday with semifinal matches at 5 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. CST. The championship final is set for Sunday, Nov. 15 at 1 p.m. Central and will be aired live on CBS College Sports. Conference USA's official website, www.ConferenceUSA.com, will provide live stats, box scores, recaps, photos from the championship, as well as offer live video streaming of the semifinals.

Marshall (10-6-1, 6-2-0) earned the No. 2 seed in this year's championship with a 3-2 victory over UAB (12-4-1, 5-2-1) in the final match of the regular season. The Blazers are the No. 3 seed in the tournament so the two teams will square off again in the 5 p.m. semifinal to kick off the tournament. This will be the first time these two teams have met in conference tournament play.

Top-ranked Tulsa, currently ranked No. 14 nationally by the NSCAA, will play No. 4 seed Kentucky (12-5-0, 5-3-0) in the 7:30 p.m. CST semifinal Friday. The two teams faced each other on Oct. 7, with Tulsa picking up a 1-0 win in Lexington. The Wildcats shut out SMU, 1-0, on Wednesday, Nov. 4, to secure the final spot in the 2009 tournament.

Tulsa and Kentucky met in the finals of the 2008 C-USA Championship, playing to a 1-1 tie before Tulsa earned its second straight tournament title on penalty kicks. Kentucky also advanced to the tournament final in 2006, the last time the C-USA Championship was hosted at Tulsa's Hurricane Soccer & Track Stadium.
