IRVING, Texas – UAB’s Derek Rios is this week’s Conference USA Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week after accounting for a career-best two goals, including his team-leading third game-winning goal of the season in a 3-0 win over Marshall. The win by the Blazers helped them capture the final seed into the 2008 C-USA Men’s Soccer Championship. Michael Goodlett of Memphis is the Defensive Player of the Week. The junior posted his fourth shutout of the season against Kentucky and made five saves to help the Tigers claim the No. 3 seed in this week’s championship.

OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK (11/10)
DEREK RIOS - UAB
Sr., F, Etibicoke, Ontario

Playing in his final game at West Campus Field, Rios accounted for a career-best two goals, including his team-leading third game-winning goal of the season, in a 3-0 win over Marshall. Rios put his team on his shoulders when they needed it most, as the Blazers’ victory lifted UAB into the C-USA Championship for a 14th consecutive season. Rios’ game-winner came in the 11th minute of play when he scored on a nifty topspin flick over the goalkeepers head to give UAB a 1-0 lead. Rios also sealed the victory in the 51st minute when he scored UAB’s third goal of the game. For the season, Rios has a team-best six goals and 13 points. The weekly nod is the first of Rios’ career.

DEFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK (11/10)
MICHAEL GOODLETT - Memphis
Jr., GK, Bolton, Miss.

Goodlett posted his fourth shutout of the season against the No. 23 Kentucky Wildcats on Friday. Kentucky entered the match having the 18th-ranked scoring offense in the nation, averaging more than two goals a game. Goodlett ended the game with five saves on Kentucky's 13 shots. He ended the regular season ranked fourth in career goals against average posting a 1.42 mark in his three-year career. Goodlett is right behind former all-conference goalkeeper and current Lady Tigers soccer coach Brooks Monaghan, who finished his career with a 1.40 career goals against average. This is the first career weekly honor for Goodlett.
