Two Conference USA Schools Earn NCAA Men's Soccer Bids
CHICAGO - Two Conference USA schools, UAB and Saint Louis, have earned bids
to the 2000 NCAA Men's Soccer Championship, it was announced Nov. 13 by the
NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Committee. This is the fourth straight year
that C-USA has received multiple bids to the NCAA's.
First round games will be played this Saturday and Sunday, November 18-19,
with times to be announced on Tuesday.
After becoming the first team in league history to win at outright regular
season championship and the Conference USA Tournament in the same season,
Saint Louis will make its record 39th NCAA appearance. The Billikens
(13-3-2) will host Kentucky (11-8-1) on Saturday afternoon (Nov. 18) at
Robert R. Hermann Stadium in St. Louis.
UAB (14-4-2) will be making its second consecutive NCAA appearance after
advancing to the final eight of the 1999 NCAA Tournament. The Blazers will
travel to Seattle to face Washington (13-5) on Saturday.
First, second and quarterfinal rounds take place at campus sites. The
semifinals and finals, which will take place December 8 and December 10,
will be hosted by the Charlotte Sports Commission, Davidson College and the
University of North Carolina, Charlotte and will be played at Ericsson
Stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina.
The two bids to this year's championship gives C-USA 14 in its six-year
history. Conference USA schools have combined for a total of 70 all-time
appearances in the NCAA Championship, dating back to 1959.
