BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - With the afternoon session of the 2007 C-USA Men's Soccer Championship complete, the first semifinal match has been set. No. 6 Marshall will face No. 7 Florida International in Friday's 5 p.m. semifinal after both teams posted upsets. FIU opened the day with a 3-1 win over defending champion SMU, while Marshall knocked off No. 3 seed Kentucky by the same 3-1 score.

Match 2 - No. 6 Marshall 3, No. 3 Kentucky 1
With a trio of goals scored in a 15-minute span, No. 6 seed Marshall posted a 3-1 victory over No. 3 Kentucky in the second semifinal match.

The regionally-ranked Thundering Herd utilized their speed to outmaneuver a tough UK defense. After the Wildcats got on the scoreboard first, Marshall answered with two goals in the final eight minutes of the half to take a 2-1 lead at the half. In the 38th minute, Marshall tied it up when freshman MF Sammy Boateng sent a cross to John Daniele, who found the net.

The Wildcats kept charging and, in the final five minutes of the first half, UK had a great shot at the goal but Aaron Swanson's attempt was deflected and went wide right.

At the one-minute warning of the half, senior Avneet Shergill scored on a free kick.

Daniele assisted on the final Marshall goal in the 53rd minute, sending in a pass to Sterling Flunder. The All-Conference USA second-teamer sent the shot into the low left corner.

Kentucky junior MF Masumi Turnbull scored his first goal of the season, taking a pass from sophomore Mark Halma for the lone Wildcat game of the day.

Marshall will face Florida International in the first semifinal match on Friday. Kickoff is scheduled for 5 p.m. CST.
