College Soccer News has selected Saint Louis University forward Vedad Ibisevic as its
national Player of the Week for the period ending Nov. 16. Soccer America also placed the Billikens’ scoring leader on its national Team
of the Week.
Ibisevic set a Conference USA Tournament record with four goals against UAB in the Billikens’ 5-1 win in the semifinal. He also set a single-game tournament record for points with nine by assisting on SLU’s last goal of the game. He added two more goals against Charlotte in the
tournament championship match, which the Bills eventually won in a penalty kick shootout. As a result, he was named to the All-Tournament Team.
“Vedad had an exceptional weekend, but our team played extremely well and provided him with some wonderful opportunities,” Billikens head coach Dan Donigan said. “However, he still had to finish those chances, and he came up with some incredible individual efforts for some great
goals.”
With 34 points (15G, 4A), Ibisevic has broken Brian McBride’s freshman scoring record, which stood at 29 points. He also topped McBride’s
freshman goal scoring record of 12.
Fourth-ranked Saint Louis (13-3-3) received a first-round bye in the NCAA Tournament earlier this week. Fairleigh Dickinson and Binghamton
square off this weekend to earn the right to play the Billikens. Saint Louis will host one of the eastern schools on Wed., Nov. 26, for a 7
p.m. kick-off at Robert R. Hermann Stadium.
