Tulsa Soccer Team Gets First-Round Bye in NCAA Championship
Nov. 19, 2007
Tulsa, Oklahoma - The nation's seventh-ranked Tulsa Golden Hurricane men's soccer team was one of 16 teams to receive a first-round bye in the NCAA Soccer Championship, it was announced earlier today. Tulsa, the 16th-seed, will host a second round match-up on Wednesday, November 28, at 7:00 pm at the Hurricane Soccer and Track Stadium. The Hurricane will play against the winner of the Harvard-Central Connecticut State game, which will be played this Saturday at Harvard's Ohiri Field in Cambridge, Mass. at 12 noon (ET). Harvard, ranked 15th nationally, has posted a 12-3-2 record, while CCSU is 8-8-3 on the season. The winner of the Tulsa bracket will play the winner of the bracket featuring No. 1 seed Boston College, Boston U. and Massachusetts, Dec. 1 or 2. "It's exciting to be one of the top-16 seeds. It's a big accomplishment for our team. It's something that we can all be proud of, knowing how difficult it is to reach the NCAA Tournament," said Tulsa Head Coach Tom McIntosh. "We look forward to the opportunity to continue playing and try to win another championship." Tulsa will have nine days between its last game, when the Hurricane captured the Conference USA Championship with a 3-2 victory over FIU, until its second round NCAA match-up. "We played three games in four days during the conference tournament, so the rest will be good for us. We're looking forward to getting re-energized and get ready to play. The Hurricane has an overall 15-2-2 record, including wins over No.4 Creighton, No. 10 South Carolina and a tied against #8 SMU. Tulsa won the C-USA regular season with a 6-0-2 mark before going on and capturing the tournament crown. The top-4 seeds in the NCAA Championship are No. 1 Boston College, No. 2 Wake Forest, No. 3 Connecticut and No. 4 Indiana. The 2007 NCAA Men's College Cup will be played at the SAS Soccer Park in Cary, North Carolina, Dec. 14 and 16.
