CHICAGO - Three Conference USA men's and women's soccer players were named to the 2001 National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) All-America teams. For the men, Saint Louis senior forward DIPSY SELOLWANE (first team) and sophomore midfielder BRAD DAVIS (second team) were recognized, and Cincinnati senior forward ANN THOMAS was named to the NSCAA All-America second team.
Selolwane and Davis led Saint Louis to its second straight Conference USA regular season and tournament titles and to the NCAA quarterfinals. Selolwane tied the league's single-season goal record (25), and his 54 total points are seventh on the school's single-season list and the best by a Billiken since 1995 National Player of the Year Matt McKeon had 54. Selolwane was named Conference USA Player of the Year and the Most Valuable Forward at the Conference USA Tournament. His 25 goals are tied with 2001 National Player of the Year Luchi Gonzalez (SMU) for tops in the country.
Davis was a finalist for both the Hermann Trophy as well as the Missouri Athletic Club National Player of the Year after leading the nation with 14 assists. In fact, he is one of only eight Billikens in school history to record double figure goals (10) and assists in the same season. Davis was also named Most Valuable Midfielder at the Conference USA Tournament.
Thomas was instrumental in helping Cincinnati post a C-USA record-tying 20-4 mark en route to the league's first NCAA Women's Soccer Sweet 16 appearance. UC advanced to the Sweet 16 with a 3-2 win at No. 7 Notre Dame on Nov. 18. The victory over the Irish marks the highest, nationally-ranked opponent that a Conference USA program has ever defeated. It also ended Notre Dame's 39-match home winning streak. The eighth player in program history to earn All-American laurels, Thomas led Cincinnati with 11 goals, including six game-winners. In addition to earning Most Valuable Forward honors at the Conference USA Tournament, Thomas was also named to the Soccer America and soccerbuzz.com National Team of the Week.
