Harknett Wins Opener at NCAA Singles Championships

ATHENS, Ga. -- Making his first appearance at the NCAA singles championships, Rice's Ben Harknett swept Philip Therp of UC-Santa Barbara 6-4, 6-4 in Athens, Ga. With the win in the opening round of the 64-man singles tournament, the 38th-ranked Harknett, a May Rice graduate, will face Ohio State's No. 6 Steven Moneke in the round of 32 on Thursday. The NCAA championships continue through Monday.
