Men's Tennis Hosts Wilson/ITA Central Region Championships

Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa men's tennis team had five athletes in action on Thursday at the Wilson/ITA Central Region Championships at the Michael D. Case Tennis Center on the TU campus. The open singles and doubles portion on the tournament will began today and concludes on Sunday, Oct. 28. Featured teams from the Central Region are: Tulsa, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, ORU, Arkansas, Creighton, Drake, Nebraska, Wichita State, St. Louis, Illinois State, Arkansas-Little Rock and Southern Illinois. Tulsa will have five singles players in action tomorrow, as well as a doubles pair. Junior Ross Cunningham defeated Arkansas' Conor Smith, 6-4, 6-0 in the round 64. He also beat Ivan Mendoza of Drake, 7-6, 6-3. Senior Andy Connelly defeated two members of the St. Louis team, Marcus Fadul in the first round 6-2, 6-1 and then beat Sean McManus, 6-1, 6-1 in the second round. Senior Will Gray beat Francois Van Inpe of Nebraska and Oklahoma's Ryan Thomas, 6-1, 6-2 and 6-0, 6-0, respectively. Lastly, Ricardo Soriano defeated Alex Dargel of ORU, 6-2, 7-6 and beat Illinois State's Xavier Riart-Ferrer, 6-1, 6-2, to reach the round of 16. TU's only singles player not to reach the round of 16 was Albert Juo, who fell to Tiago Espirito Santo, 6-1, 6-3 in the round of 64. In TU's lone doubles match, the pair of Gray/Soriano defeated Illinois State's duo of Daniel Tobar/Luka Marinkovic, 9-8. TU Recap Singles
