Tulsa Well Represented at NCAA Individual Championships
May 3, 2007 Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa's men's tennis team (19-6) will be well represented during the 2007 NCAA Individual Tennis Championships, with Arnau Brugues earning a trip to the singles championship, while the duo of Diego Camacho and Ross Cunningham earned a bid to the doubles championship. Both earned the Conference USA automatic bid to the championships after finishing the season as the highest ranked in singles and doubles within the conference. Brugues, ranked No. 7 in the nation, garnered the No. 7 overall seed in the field of 64. Brugues finished the year with a 27-6 record overall and a 17-6 record against ranked competition. He has a win earlier in the season against the tournament's No. 1 overall seed John Isner, taking a 7-6, 6-4 decision in the championship final of the Polo Ralph Lauren All-American Tennis Championship during the fall. The doubles duo of Camacho and Cunningham, ranked No. 41 in the nation, were selected to the doubles draw following a strong outing at the Conference USA Men's Tennis Championship where they were vital in Tulsa repeating as conference champions. The pair owns 22-10 record for the year, with three wins over ranked competition. One of those wins came over the then No. 1 and defending NCAA national champion duo of Kevin Anderson and Ryan Rowe of Illinois, who are a 5-8 seed in the 32 team tournament. They join the TU team as a whole who found out on Monday that it will open the 2007 NCAA Division I Men's Tennis Championship against Vanderbilt in Baton Rouge, La. The pairings for the singles and doubles tournament have not yet been released.
