IRVING, Texas - Memphis' Benedikt Fischer and Tulsa's Arnau Brugues were named to the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-All-America Men's At-Large teams Tuesday as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) members.

Brugues, who recently finished play in the NCAA Men's Tennis Singles Championship, finished the season ranked 11th nationally and No. 2 in the Central Region.

In the NCAAs, the junior upset the tournament's No. 5 seed Daniel Vallverdu of Miami (Fla.) with a 6-4, 6-4 victory, but fell in the Round of 16. Brugues also garneed ITA All-America honors in 2008 and recorded 11 victories against opponents ranked in the Top 100.

The Dean's List member carries a 3.69 GPA in exercise and sports science and is a two-time member of the Conference USA Men's Tennis All-Academic team. He was honored with a third team CoSIDA All-America selection.

Fischer becomes the first-ever Tiger tennis player to be named an Academic All-America and the 15th student-athlete in Memphis history to earn an Academic All-America award.

Fischer is a two-time honoree on the C-USA All-Academic team and has gone his entire athletic career never getting less than an A in his college coursework. He graduated in May with a degree in International Business in just two years at Memphis and will work on his MBA during his final season of college eligibility this upcoming season.

On the court, Fischer finished with a 14-8 overall record in singles play, including a 10-6 mark at No. 6 singles and a 2-0 mark at No. 5. Fischer was also 11-4 in doubles play this season, including a 7-3 mark at No. 3 doubles with three different partners during dual season play.
