Feb. 12 Women's Basketball Player of the Week
Feb. 12, 2007 Irving, Texas - For the second cosecutive week, UAB has captured C-USA women's basketball player of the week honors. Senior guard Caremn Guzman guide the Blazers to a 1-1 mark against two of the top teams in the league. She extended her double figure scoring streak to 24 games with a pair of 20-plus point outings. This is Guzman's second career and first of the season player of the week honor. C-USA WOMEN'S BASKETBALL NOTEBOOK & STATISTICS - FEB. 12 CARMEN GUZMAN, UAB Guzman averaged 22.5 ppg and 7.5 rpg, while shooting a flawless 100 percent from the free throw line (12-of-12) and .366 (15-of-41) from the field. Guzman's double figure scoring games now stands at 24, a C-USA best. She produced a pair of 20-plus point outings over the weekend as UAB went 1-1 against two of the top teams in the conference. Guzman led UAB with 24 of its 54 points to lift the Blazers over UTEP, 54-43, Thursday. She canned all eight free throws, hit 7-of-17 (.412) shots from the floor, including two baskets from 3-point range. She also recorded four rebounds, four assists and a game-high five steals against the Miners. Guzman produced her third double-double of the year with a game-high 21 points and 11 rebounds in UAB's loss to first-place Tulane Saturday in New Orleans. She once again was perfect from the charity stripe, going 4-of-4, and sunk eight buckets. Guzman also tallied a pair of assists and three steals against the Green Wave, while playing her second consecutive complete game. Guzman continues to rank among C-USA's top 10 in five categories, including first in scoring (21.7 ppg), fourth in three-point baskets per game (2.08), fifth in three-point field goal percentage (.365), eighth in steals (2.21 spg) and ninth in field goal percentage (.456). She also continues to be listed in the top 10 nationally in scoring, ranking seventh. This is Guzman's second career and first of the season player of the week honor.
