TULSA, Okla. - Host and No. 10 seed Tulsa provided the second upset on day one of the 2007 Conference USA Women's Basketball Championship when it downed seventh-seeded Southern Miss, 73-64. Larissa Williams led TU with a team-high 19 points and 15 rebounds. The teams played close for the first 12 minutes of the game, but TU began to pull away in the latter stages of the first half and led by as many as 12 points. The Golden Hurricane went into intermission with a 40-29 advantage. Tulsa (11-18) pushed its lead to 15 points, 45-30, with 18:37 left to play, but the Golden Eagles would not go quietly. USM (15-15) closed the gap to five at 64-59 with 3:50 left in the game, but would get no closer after TU hit enough free throws to seal the game. Two-time C-USA Player of the Year Jillian Robbins also finished with a double-double for Tulsa, tallying 17 points and 12 boards. The senior filled the stat sheet and added two blocks, three steals and one assist. Tandem Mays and Valerie Siemens chipped in with 11 and 10 points, respectively. Amber Eugene led all scorers with a game-high 25 points and added 10 rebounds for a double-double. Eugene was 9-for-12 from the free throw line. Kendra Reed scored 14 points for the Golden Eagles and Lauren Pittman added 12 points in the loss. With the victory, Tulsa advances to play No. 2 UAB at 6:00 p.m. on Friday.
