The Bayer Advantage Senior CLASS Award Organizing Committee named TCU women's basketball star forward Sandora Irvin one of 10 finalists for the honor. Other finalists include Jacqueline Batteast (Notre Dame), Steffanie Blackmon (Baylor), Shyra Ely (Tennessee), Temeka Johnson (LSU), Caity Matter (Ohio State), Janel McCarville (Minnesota), Kendra Wecker (Kansas State), Tan White (Mississippi State) and Tanisha Wright (Penn State).

The Senior CLASS Award--an acronym for Celebrating Loyalty and Achievement for Staying in School--was launched for the 2001-02 college basketball season. It is designed to honor the attributes of seniors who remain committed to their university and elect to pursue the many rewards that a senior season can bring. Legendary sportscaster Dick Enberg initiated the idea for the award and now serves as Honorary Chairman.

A national committee of sportswriters and sportscasters selected the 10 men and 10 women finalists for the fourth annual award. The names of the finalists will appear on the official ballot during the national voting process throughout the month of March.

The winners are determined by a points system involving three voting groups: the national media committee, NCAA Division I head basketball coaches and national online fan balloting via the award's official Web site, www.seniorclassaward.com.

Earlier in the day, Irvin was selected as one of 11 members to the Conference USA All-Decade Team. C-USA's Defensive Player of the Year in 2003 and 2004, Irvin was selected to the C-USA Third, Second and First Team in 2002, 2003 and 2004. She also made the All-Freshman Team her rookie season. As a junior, she became TCU's first All-American, being named Honorable Mention by The Associated Press and Kodak/WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association)

Irvin has received numerous honors this season, being named to the Miami Jam and Rainbow Wahine Classic All-Tournament Teams in November. She was also tabbed the MVP for the Wahine Classic after TCU upset then-No. 3 Georgia and then-No. 13/14 Michigan State to win the title. The Fort Lauderdale, Fla., native is also one of three players in C-USA history to be named Player of the Week four times in one season.

Irvin was named the WBCA National Player of the Month for her December performance earlier in January. Irvin averaged 22.5 points, 13 rebounds, 3.6 blocks and 2.8 steals in TCU's eight games during the month. She tallied a career-high 32 points versus Oklahoma Dec. 9 in an 81-65 victory. Irvin scored at least 20 points in six of the eight contests and was in double digits in the rebounds category in all but two games as well.

For the 2004-05 season, Irvin is averaging 20 points, 12 rebounds, 4.7 blocked shots, 2.2 assists and 2.4 steals. She ranks 13th in the country in scoring and second in rebounding and blocks.

Earlier in the year, Irvin broke the NCAA single-game record for blocked shots with 16 versus UAB Jan. 16. The old record of 15 was held by Amy Lundquist from Loyola Marymount. Irvin also had the first triple-double in school history against UAB by adding 20 points and 18 rebounds.

The next record Irvin broke was the NCAA's career record for blocked shots of 428, doing so versus Memphis Feb. 5. She needed just three going into the game and finished with eight. Her current total stands at 457 with two regular-season contests remaining.
