TULSA, Okla. - No. 1 Tulane held off a late rally by No. 9 Houston take the first quarterfinal game on Friday, 62-55, at the 2007 Conference USA Women's Basketball Championship hosted by the University of Tulsa. Despite being out-shot and out-rebounded, Tulane grabbed a tough victory and advanced to the semifinals for the first time since 2002. This will be TU's seventh championship semifinal appearance as a member of C-USA.

The Green Wave (25-5) led 33-25 at the break and stretched their lead to as many as 13 points in the second half. The Cougars (9-19) raced back late in the second half on series of layups by Ashlee Joseph and Sunshine Misa-Uli and closed to within two at 55-53 with 3:54 remaining. UH would get no closer and Tulane sank free throws late to seal the victory.

D'Aundra Henry led TU with 13 points and also added four assists, four steals and three rebounds. Megan Valicevic scored 11 points for the Green Wave, eight coming in the first half. Jami Montagnino was the third Tulane player in double-digits with 10. She also added five boards.

Tye Jackson, coming off a 43-point effort on Thursday, scored a team-high tying 17 points and added five rebounds, four assists and three steals. Whitney James also scored 17 points for the Cougars in the loss.

With the win, Tulane advances to Saturday's first semifinal game at 2:00 p.m. CT. The contest will be televised live on CSTV.
