DePaul Falls to Ohio State in WNIT Action
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) -- Courtney Coleman scored 18 points and Caity Matter added 14 more to lead Ohio State to a
73-62 win over DePaul Sunday in the second round of the Women's National Invitational Tournament.
The Buckeyes (19-11) took the lead on a three-pointer from Matter with 10:32 left in the first half and never gave it up,
leading by 12 at the end of the first half and by as many as 19 points in the second half.
Lenae Williams and Briana Fitzgerald dominated the scoring for DePaul (18-14) with 21 points and 19 points, respectively.
Ohio State shot 66.7 percent from the field in the first half, making 18 of 27 shots, versus 46.4 percent for DePaul, which
made only 13 of 28 field goal attempts. The Blue Demons outscored Ohio State 29-28 in the second half, but it wasn't
enough to catch the Buckeyes.
Ohio State moves to the third round to play Western Kentucky.
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) -- Forward Deanna Jackson scored 34 points as UAB defeated Alabama 84-72 in the second
round of the Women's National Invitation Tournament Sunday afternoon.
UAB (20-10) led 36-35 at halftime and outscored the Crimson Tide by 11 in the second half.
Alabama (19-12) hit four more field goals than the Blazers, but UAB was 39-of-44 from the free throw line. Jackson was
8-of-15 from the field and 15-of-17 from the free-throw line.
UAB beat Alabama 41-26 in the battle for rebounds and scored 16 second chance points.
Shaquetta Rhodes had 16 points and 11 rebounds for the Blazers, while Natasha Thomas had 14 points and 13 rebounds.
Mia Thrash added 11 for UAB.
Beth Vice came off the bench to hit 4-of-7 3-pointers and score 14 points for the Crimson Tide. Shun Hunter added 13
and LaNisha Cartwell had 10 for Alabama.
UAB advances to the third round of the NIT to play New Mexico Wednesday in Albuquerque.
