Irvin Named WBCA All-Star Challenge Game Team MVP

INDIANAPOLIS (April 4, 2005) - TCU senior Sandora Irvin was named the team MVP of the WBCA (Women's Basketball Coaches Association) All-Star Challenge Game Saturday in Indianapolis. Irvin scored 14 points, grabbed six rebounds and blocked two shots for the Brickyard 400s in an 82-72 loss to the Indy 500s. Kendra Wecker from Kansas State was chosen as MVP for Indy.
Earlier Saturday, Irvin was selected to the Kodak/WBCA All-America Team. Joining Irvin on the 10-person were Seimone Augustus of LSU, Jacqueline Batteast of Notre Dame, Monique Currie of Duke, Jessica Davenport of Ohio State, Janel McCarville of Minnesota, Kendra Wecker of Kansas State, Tan White of Mississippi State, Candice Wiggins of Stanford and Sophia Young of Baylor. Augustus was the recipient of the State Farm Wade Trophy, which is presented to the national player of the year.
Irvin has earned numerous honors this season, being named to the United States Basketball Writers Association All-America Team and The Associated Press All-America First Team. She was chosen as Conference USA Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year as well. Irvin nabbed a spot on the All-Conference First Team and earned MVP honors for leading the Lady Frogs to the 2005 Conference USA Tournament crown.
