April 18, 2006 Tulsa's Megan Moody Signs as a Free Agent with the WNBA's Houston Comets Moody Becomes the Third Golden Hurricane Player to Join an WNBA Team Tulsa, Oklahoma - University of Tulsa senior Megan Moody has signed a free agent contract with the Houston Comets of the Women's National Basketball Association (WNBA). Terms of the agreement were not disclosed per team policy. A 6'2" forward from Frankston, Victoria, Australia, Moody is the third Tulsa player in school history to sign a contract with a WNBA team. Carla Morrow (1998-2002) signed with the Seattle Storm in 2002, while former Hurricane great Allison Curtin (2002-03) was drafted in the first round of the WNBA Draft by the Detroit Shock in 2003. "I am just happy to have the opportunity to try-out and make a WNBA squad," Moody said. "This is a stepping-stone to a dream come true. I am still trying to fulfill my dreams of playing professional basketball, and I am going to Houston and give it my best shot." "Coach (Charlene) Thomas-Swinson has done a great job for me this year with a lot of the behind-the-scenes work. The success our team had this past season has opened up numerous doors for me, and the TU women's basketball program as well," Moody added. Moody completed her career this past season as the school's sixth all-time leading scorer with 1,122 points. She ranks second on the school's career list for three-pointers (166) and ninth for rebounds with 459. Moody also owns the school mark for career games played with 120. During her senior season, she started all 32 games and averaged 13.0 points, 4.7 rebounds and 2.2 assists per game, and was named to the Conference USA second team. Moody ranked second on the team in scoring, rebounding, blocked shots and three-pointers made. She reached double figures in 22 games and notched one double-double. Moody blossomed in NCAA Tournament play, averaging 21.0 points, 6.0 rebounds and 2.0 three-pointers in two games. She helped Tulsa register a 26-6 overall record, a Conference USA regular season and tournament championship, and led the Golden Hurricane to a 71-61 upset victory over fifth-seeded North Carolina State in the first round of the 2006 NCAA Tournament with 20 points and eight rebounds. "This is a great opportunity and challenge for Megan with the camp and the company she will be keeping for the next few weeks," Tulsa Head Coach Charlene Thomas-Swinson said. "She will have the ability learn in a very good coaching system with Van Chancellor. Van is a great teacher at his camps and Megan will be able to learn his type of game." "Since our season ended, we have worked with Megan both physically and mentally, and helping her understand the level of play she will have to rise to in the WNBA, which is much different from the college game,"
Thomas-Swinson added.
