Cincinnati's Pirtle and Sharp Honored By Women's Sports Foundation
Cincinnati women’s basketball coach Laurie Pirtle and senior guard K.B. Sharp were honored by the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky Women’s Sports Association on Thursday night at the 10th Annual Sports and Fitness Awards Dinner at the Drawbridge Inn.
CINCINNATI, Ohio — Cincinnati women’s basketball coach Laurie Pirtle and senior guard K.B. Sharp were honored by the Greater Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky Women’s Sports Association on Thursday night at the 10th Annual Sports and Fitness Awards Dinner at the Drawbridge Inn.
Sharp was given the College Sportswoman of the Year Award, presented to a woman playing locally or a local woman attending in-state or out-of-state college who demonstrates superior athletic achievement, with consideration given to academic standards, community involvement, and outstanding leadership qualities.
Sharp concluded her Bearcat career as UC’s all-time leader in career assists, games played and minutes played. She won more games than any player in school annals and is second in Conference USA history in assists.
Pirtle was honored with the College Coach of the Year Award She is the winningest coach in UC women’s basketball history and has led the Bearcats to six-straight postseason appearances. This past season, UC finished second in Conference USA in both the regular season and tournament with a 23-8 record. The Bearcats reached the NCAA Tournament for the second year in a row, a first for UC.
The Coach of the Year Award is judged on coaching success as well as status as a role model for athletes, community involvement, participation in coaching associations and other related professional organizations, and general pursuit of excellence as a coach and mentor.
