Jazz Covington

The University of Louisville's Jazz Covington has been named to the Basketball Times Freshman All-American team, the publication has announced. Covington is one of ten freshman around the nation named to the team.

"We are pleased the Jazz is getting this kind of recognition," said head coach Tom Collen. "Now people will realize what we knew all along, that she is one of the best players in the country. We feel fortunate that she is at Louisville because she could start fro any program in the nation."

Covington finished her freshman season averaging 16.1 points and 8.2 rebounds per game. She became the second leading freshman scorer and rebounder in Cardinal history, behind Gwen Doyle's 17.9 points and 8.5 rebounds per game. She started all 30 games for the Cardinals and led the team in field goal percentage, connecting on 55.8 percent.

The 6-2, center scored a career-high 30 points in U of L's 77-75 win at No. 16 Houston. She also pulled down a career-high 17 rebounds twice and recorded 11 double-doubles on the season. She was a second team All-Conference USA performer. She was also named to the Conference USA All-Freshman team.
