Evans founded and was an instructor for Krossover Basketball based in Janesville, Wis. He still runs FirstStep Basketball Camp in his homestate of Wisconsin.

Evans graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1995 with a degree in secondary education. He was the team captain his final two seasons at UW-Whitewater and was a first-team All-American in 1994-95. The Spiders became the first No. 15 seed to defeat a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament when UR downed Syracuse in 1991. After his collegiate stint, Evans was the scoring champion and runner-up for the league MVP award on the Ulriken team in 1996-97.
