WBCA Honors Tulane's Grace Daley
NEW ORLEANS, La. - Tulane's Grace Daley added another set of honors to
her impressive resume on Thursday, picking up a pair of awards from the
Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).
The reigning Conference USA Player of the Year, Daley was named by the
WBCA as one of 48 finalists for the 2000 NCAA Division I Kodak Women's
Basketball All-America team. By reaching the final round, Daley is
assured of earning at least honorable mention All-America honors for the
third straight season. The finalists, voted on by WBCA member coaches
in each of eight WBCA geographical districts, are vying for a spot on
the 10-member Kodak All-America team, which will be announced March 30
in Philadelphia.
In addition, Daley was selected as one of 17 Division I seniors to play
in the WBCA All-Star Challenge on April 1 in conjunction with the Final
Four. The game, which features the Player of the Year (yet to be
determined) from NCAA Division II, III and NAIA in addition to the 17
Division I seniors, will be played at the Palestra on the campus of the
University of Pennsylvania.
"These are certainly a pair of outstanding honors for Grace," Tulane
head coach Lisa Stockton said. "Of course, we think she is one of the
best players in the nation, but it is great for her to earn the
recognition of women's basketball coaches from across the nation."
Daley, a three-time, first-team All-Conference USA choice, leads the
league and ranks eighth nationally in scoring at 21.3 points per game,
while also ranking among the C-USA leaders in 10 of 12 statistical
categories (all but blocked shots and defensive rebounds). She has
already earned All-America honors from the Women's Basketball News
Service this year, and was one of just five players selected as a
first-team Midseason All-American by the Women's Basketball Journal.
Next up for Daley and Tulane is the Green Wave's sixth straight trip to
the NCAA Tournament, as the Wave earned an automatic berth after winning
the Conference USA Tournament.
