Angela Crosby Named to Memphis Women's Basketball Staff
University of Memphis women's basketball coach Blair Savage announced today that she has hired Chattanooga assistant Angela Crosby.
Crosby recently completed her fourth year at Chattanooga, assisting on a staff that took the Mocs to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances. Crosby was responsible for the off-campus recruiting aspects of the Lady Mocs' program, as well as scouting and working with the post players.
With Crosby on board, the Lady Mocs have won four consecutive Southern Conference regular-season championships and four straight SoCon Tournament titles. The 2003-04 squad enjoyed national recognition for holding the longest NCAA women's basketball winning streak at 27 games. Chattanooga also defeated Rutgers in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, marking the first time ever that a SoCon squad had advanced to the second round of the prestigious tournament.
In her first season on the UTC staff, Crosby helped the Lady Mocs to a No. 1 ranking in the Southern Conference in rebound margin, rebounding defense, scoring offense and scoring margin.
Prior to UTC, Crosby was an assistant coach at Appalachian State from 1997-2000. In her time at Appalachian State, the Mountaineers won the Southern Conference Tournament title in 1998-99 to advance to the NCAA Tournament before losing at Tennessee. Her duties for ASU included working with the post players, alumni-event coordinator, on- and off-campus recruiting and promotion coordinator.
Crosby, who played at Appalachian State from 1992-94, returned to her alma mater in the summer of the 1997 after spending two years at T.L. Hanna High School in Anderson, S.C. Crosby, who ranks eighth in Mountaineers history in scoring, was a Southern Conference Player of the Year following the 1993-94 season. She earned first-team All-Southern Conference honors both years, and in the 1992-93 season, she was named a second-team All-American by FASTBREAK Magazine. That season, Crosby finished 11th in the country in scoring and 17th in field-goal accuracy (.637).
In two years, Crosby scored 1,023 points, averaging 21.9 points per contest. Both were school records for a two-year player. She played in just 55 games and helped the Mountaineers to a 30-25 mark. Overall, Crosby ranks eighth in career points scored and is second in career scoring average. She holds the school career mark for field-goal percentage (.628), making 429 of 683. She also finished with 510 rebounds (13th in school history), averaging 9.3 rebounds per contest (third in school history).
Prior to transferring to Appalachian State, Crosby was an All-Region 10 selection at Anderson Junior College. She averaged 18 points and 12.3 rebounds per game in two seasons.
A native of Anderson, S.C., Crosby returned to her high school after earning a bachelor's degree from ASU in habilitive science in 1995.
At T.L. Hanna, Crosby was the junior varsity coach and assistant varsity coach. She also served as the volleyball junior varsity and varsity assistant coach. Besides her coaching duties, Crosby worked as a security assistant, office assistant and fundraising coordinator.
A prep star at T.L. Hanna High School, Crosby was a high school All-American during her senior season.
