ERICKSON JOINS CHARLOTTE WOMEN'S BASKETBALL STAFF

CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- Charlotte 49ers women's basketball coach Katie Meier has completed her coaching staff, announcing the hiring of assistant coach Nicole Erickson. Erickson will serve as the Niners' third assistant coach.

"When I was looking to fill the final spot, I wanted someone who has played at the highest level and could share their experiences with the team," Meier said. "Nicole is that person. She sets an example for everyone with her loyalty, commitment and work ethic. She was a great player and is a bright, young coach with unlimited potential. I feel very lucky to have her on my staff."

Like Meier, Erickson is a former Duke standout. After playing her freshman and sophomore seasons at Purdue, she transferred to Duke, where she averaged 11.9 points and 3.2 over two seasons. As a member of the Blue Devils, she was a two-time All-ACC and All-NCAA regional selection. In 1999, Erickson helped her team to an NCAA runner-up finish.

"This is a tremendous opportunity for me," Erickson said. "Everyone has shown a great deal of enthusiasm toward Coach Meier and our team and I am looking forward to learning and growing with it. Charlotte really is the perfect situation for me."

Upon completing her degree in cultural anthropology, Erickson played professionally for Strasbourg RCS in France for one season. Last year, she worked as a volunteer assistant coach at Centennial High School in Port St. Lucie, Fla.
