TCU's Mittie Shuffles Coaching Responsibilities for 2003-04 Season
FORT WORTH, Texas - TCU women's basketball coach Jeff Mittie announced today a shuffling in the responsibilities for the upcoming 2003-04 campaign. Lonnette Hall, an assistant coach for the Lady Frogs the past four years, becomes director of basketball operations, a position previously held by Sean McShane. McShane now assumes the position of a floor coach for TCU. Hall's duties will include, among other administrative responsibilities, handling team travel, community outreach and compliance issues. She will also play a significant role in the 2004 Conference USA Tournament, hosted by TCU March 4-7.
"What we're trying to do is fit everyone with their strengths," Mittie said. "Lonnette has a long-term goal of becoming an administrator, and since we have the opportunity to host the conference tournament this year, she will gain valuable experience in assisting with the administration of the event. Most of Sean's experience is on the floor, but now he'll be able to learn more about the recruiting process.
"It's a win-win situation for us. Lonnette and Sean will both benefit from this move, as will our program."
Hall joined the TCU family along with Mittie in August 1999 after serving as one of his assistants at Arkansas State for three seasons. The Oxnard, Calif., native had been responsible for the team's strength program and worked with the post players. She was also an on-the-road recruiter and heavily involved with booster club functions as well.
Prior to her stint at Arkansas State, Hall served two years (1994-95 and 1995-96) as an assistant coach at Wisconsin-La Crosse and was an assistant two seasons (1992-93 and 1993-94) at her alma mater, California State-Northridge. She began her coaching career at Hueneme (Calif.) High School, where she served as junior varsity coach from 1988-90.
Hall owns an associate arts degree from Ventura, received her bachelor's degree from California State-Northridge in 1994 and earned her master's degree from Wisconsin-La Crosse in 1996.
"I'm really excited about the change," said Hall. "I want to be an administrator some day and this position gives me a leg up in that world. It's a great move for our program and will help us continue to grow what we've built here the past four years."
The Washington state native McShane was TCU's first-ever director of operations, joining the staff in early September last year. His duties included handling team travel, scouting reports and film breakdown, while also assisting in team scheduling. McShane is no stranger to the Lady Frog program, as he served as TCU's tour guide on the team's 2001 summer trip to Australia.
Before coming to Fort Worth, McShane assembled and served as head coach of an Australian team that has played a series of exhibition games in the United States. Previously, McShane spent four years as the general manager/head coach of the Border Basketball Club in New South Wales, Australia, where he was in charge of recruiting and coaching duties for a team that competed in the national Australian Basketball Association (ABA). As general manager, he oversaw all of the club's operations, from sales and marketing to budgeting and public relations.
McShane played collegiate basketball for both Whitman College and St. Martin's College, and graduated from St. Martin's with a B.A. in psychology in 1992. His playing experience also includes a stint with Australia's Sandringham Basketball Club in Melbourne.
"I'm excited about it," McShane stated. "It's a great opportunity to be on the floor fulltime. I feel that I have a lot to offer and that my strength lies in working one-on-one with players. My new role with the team is hopefully a step in the right direction for a program that has had a lot of success."
