Tulsa, Okla. - The University of Tulsa head women's basketball coach Charlene Thomas-Swinson was elected to serve on the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) Board of Directors, as announced by incoming President Sherri Coale. Six new members have been added to make up the 28-member board of coaches and professionals.

According to the WBCA, which was founded in 1981, the organization promotes women's basketball by unifying coaches at all levels to develop a reputable identity for the sport, and to foster and promote the development of the game in all of its aspects as a sport for women and girls. The WBCA Board of Directors develops policies, procedures and regulations for the operation of the organization. They also monitor the organization's financial health, programs and overall performance, and provide the chief executive officer with the resources to meet the needs of those the organization serves.

Thomas-Swinson, who is in her third season at the helm of the Golden Hurricane women's basketball program, has a 61-86 overall coaching record and a 37-25 mark at TU. She was named the 2006 Conference USA Coach of the Year after leading Tulsa to its first regular season and C-USA Tournament championships, as well as the NCAA Tournament.
