Houston sophomore Courtney Taylor and freshman Roxana Button have been named Conference USA Player and Rookie of the Week, respectively, after guiding the Cougars to a pair of home season opening wins. Taylor averaged a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds, while Button accounted for 14.5 points and shot .526 percent (10-of-19) from the field. Houston defeated Southeast Louisiana, 73-58, and Gardner-Webb, 79-58.

Taylor averaged a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds in Houston's season-opening wins over Southeast Louisiana, 73-58, and Gardner-Webb, 79-58. She also shot .500 (11-of-22) from the field and .714 (10-of-14) from the free throw line. Taylor added six steals, three blocks and two assists to her totals for the two games. She had a game-high 17 points to go along with a team-leading 10 rebounds in the SLU victory for her 10th career double-double.Against Gardner-Webb, Taylor pulled down 14 rebounds, just one shy of her career high, and recorded 15 points to make it her second double-double of the season and 11th overall.

Button averaged 14.5 points and 4.0 rebounds per game, while shooting .526 percent (10-of-19) in her Cougar debut. She also registered five assists and four steals as well as hit eight of her 10 attempted free throws (.800). She tied teammate and C-USA Player of the Week Courtney Taylor with a game-high 17 points in the Cougars' season-opening victory over Southeastern Louisiana. In addition, she hit .727 percent (8-of-11) of her field goals and hauled down three rebounds. Less the 24 hours later, she helped UH defeat Gardner-Webb by scoring 12 points, including hitting 7-of-8 free throws (.875), grabbing five rebounds and dishing out four assists.
