Tulsa Women's Golfers to Play in NCAA West Regional
April 28, 2008
Tulsa, Oklahoma - The University of Tulsa women's golf team was selected to participate in the 2008 NCAA Division I Women's Golf West Regional, after winning the Conference USA Championship and its automatic bid last week. The West Regional will be played Thursday-Saturday, May 8-10 at the Lincoln Hills Golf Club in Lincoln, California. TU will face 20 other schools in the regional, including eight teams ranked among the top-25 in the nation. No. 3 ranked Southern California headlines the field, followed by #4 Arizona State, #7 Arkansas, #12 Arizona, #14 Oklahoma State, #17 California, #21 Michigan State and #23 Stanford. Since the regional format was adopted in 1993, Tulsa has made all but two regional tournament appearances. The Hurricane has won one regional title, with that coming in 2001 in the Central Region. "We are a little surprised about our regional," Head Coach Randy Keck said. "It is a great opportunity for us and we are looking forward to facing some quality opponents. California has already been good for us this spring, as we won the Fresno Invitational, so we are going to go out and try to advance to the NCAA Championships." The top eight teams and two individuals will advance from the three regional tournament to the NCAA Championship finals, which will be held May 20-24 at the University of New Mexico Championship Golf Course in Albuquerque, N.M.
