LEXINGTON, Ky. (SMU) - SMU rising junior Kate Ackerson advanced to the second round of match play at the 2007 U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links Championship being held at Kearney Hill Golf Links on Wednesday, topping Courtney Mahon of Kansas City, Mo., 2-and-1.

Ackerson, who finished stroke play at 1-over 145, tied for 15th and advanced to the match play portion of the event. In her opening-round match, Ackerson and Mahon were all square after 14 holes, but Ackerson birdied the 150-yard, par-3 15th and parred the par-4 16th, which Mahon bogeyed, to take a two shot lead heading into No. 17. After both parred the par-4 17th, Ackerson claimed victory in the match.

Ackerson will now face Jane Chin of Huntington Beach, Calif., on Thursday in the round of 32. Tee time is set for 7:15 a.m. Central.
