ECU Women's Soccer Announces Two Signees
GREENVILLE, N.C. - The East Carolina women's soccer team strengthened their squad today as they signed two high school student-athletes to National Letters of Intent announced Head Coach Rob Donnenwirth.
Michelle Kmiotek (Tampa, Fla./Gaither HS) and Meghan McCallion (Long Island, NY/St. Anthony's HS) join a veteran Lady Pirates squad that has won 10 or more games each of the last five years.
Kmiotek is a five-time Florida Regional and two-time Florida State keeper in the Olympic Development Program. The 5'10 goaltender was a four-year starter at Gaither HS where she garnered all-conference and all-county honors each year. She recorded 21 shutouts in her freshman season and went undefeated in her senior campaign. She is also the starting keeper for the Blackwatch Sterling club team. Kmiotek led that squad to the prestigious Raleigh Tournament Championship where she went undefeated and did not allow any goals.
McCallion also has ODP experience as she played three years for the New York State Team and was selected to the 2001 Region I player pool. The 5'7 forward helped lead St. Anthony's HS to a 42-4-1 record and two New York State Championships as a three-year starter. She finished her varsity career with 88 goals and 56 assists. McCallion was also named MVP of the 2001 State Championship match. She played with the Northport Extreme team at the club level leading them to the 2001 WAGS Tournament and the 2001 "Score at the Shore" tournament titles.
"Our goal was to sign a forward with breakaway speed and to improve our goalkeeper position," said Donnenwirth. "We have definitely done this with signing Meghan and Michelle. We anticipate four to five more signings this month."
