UAB's Kidwell Invited To Train at U.S. U-21 National Team Camp

UAB senior soccer player Tara Kidwell has been invited to train at the United States U-21 Women's National Team Camp this week at the United States National Team Training Center, as the session runs until Saturday, Feb. 12.

Kidwell, who completed her eligibility this past fall, is part of a large pool of players competing for 18 spots on the Nordic Cup roster. The Nordic Cup is widely regarded as the most competitive tournament for women in that age group in the world. The group on average holds one training camp a month leading up the Nordic Cup. The Nordic Cup is held in Northern Europe each year and this year will be held in Sweden. The event ends the yearly cycle for the players before they head back to their college pre-season camps or possibly onto a potential professional career. The players arrived in California last Saturday.

"I am so proud of Tara," said UAB head coach Paul Harbin. "She's worked extremely hard for this over the past several years and is an exceptionally talented player with the abilities and passion to play at the next level."

"I'm thankful to April Heinrichs for giving her this opportunity and am confident that Tara will represent the U.S., UAB , and herself very well during the week in California," said Harbin.

Kidwell finished her UAB career as the school's all-time leader in both goals and points. She was named the 2004 Conference USA Offensive Player of the Year, and this past weekend was named the team MVP for a third time in her career. Kidwell was twice named C-USA Offensive Player of the Week this past season and recorded three hat tricks. She notched nine goals in conference play and finished with 15 goals scored in 2004.
