Shannon St. George Joins ECU Women's Soccer Staff

Shannon St. George, who has been coaching collegiate soccer for three years, has joined the women's soccer staff at East Carolina University, according to an announcement made by head coach Rob Donnenwirth Friday.

As an assistant, her primary duties include full-time, day-to-day coaching duties, handling recruiting tasks and monitoring of student-athletes academics.

A native of Newton, Pa., St. George served as a graduate assistant coach at Marshall from 2003 to 2005, where she assisted in all facets of the program. In her two seasons with the Herd, she had direct involvement in coaching Ashleigh Woods, 2003 first-team All-Mid American Conference selection, as well as 2004 All-MAC Freshman-Team honoree Kassie Hollman.

"I am very excited to have Shannon join our staff," said Donnenwirth. "I was fortunate to coach Shannon for a year when I was at North Carolina Wesleyan. I always felt she would be an outstanding coach due to her knowledge of the game, leadership, and work ethic. It has been exciting for me to see her develop as a coach over the years. She is going to be a great role model."

A 2001 graduate of N.C. Wesleyan with a bachelor's of arts degree in English, St. George is currently finishing up her master's degree in journalism at Marshall University.

St. George was a four-year starter, four-time Dixie Conference scholar-athlete and two-time captain for the Bishops. She guided N.C. Wesleyan to three NCAA tournament appearances (1999-2001), four Dixie Conference championships, one tournament championship (2001) and the 1999 NCAA Southeast Regional Championship and Elite Eight appearance.

Prior to working at Marshall, St. George served one year (2002-03) as an assistant coach at her alma mater. She has also spent time coaching youth soccer with the West Virginia Rowdies (U-13 and U-11) and Rocky Mount Raiders (U-12).

"I'm really excited to join the East Carolina soccer family," said St. George. "Having a chance to work with Coach Donnenwirth again is something I'm looking forward too. After meeting the team, I saw the great chemistry they have and I can not wait to be a part of their success.

"Coach (Chris) Kane and (Cory) Hill have been unbelievable to work with the last two years. They have taught me so much and I can't wait to share my knowledge with the Pirates. I'm grateful for the opportunity they gave me to make my coaching start at Marshall."
