Soccer Preparing to Conclued Spring Season
April 20, 2007 MEMPHIS - The Lady Tiger soccer team is moving into the final weekend of its spring exhibition schedule with a pair of matches at Saint Louis University on Saturday. Memphis will face Indiana at 9 a.m. before taking on the Billikens at 2 p.m. "This is our last chance to get some more work in," Memphis head coach Brooks Monaghan said. "I've been pretty pleased with the way we've played this spring. Individually our kids have played well, and we've had a chance to see a lot of some kids who didn't get a lot of playing time last fall. Last weekend Memphis defeated Rhodes 2-1 and handily defeating Christian Brothers later in the day. This weeks contest will provide a step up in competition as the Lady Tigers face two perennial NCAA Tournament teams. Saint Louis earned a bid in the NCAA Tournament for a second straight year in 2006, reaching the second round with a 2-1 victory over Drake in its opening match. The Billikens topped Memphis 4-1 in an exhibition match last August. "It's great that we're going to end our spring schedule with some quality competition," Monaghan said. "Both of these programs have been really successful, and they should show how much we've improved this spring."
