Macklin Named USM Interim Soccer Coach
Southern Miss Director of Athletics Richard Giannini announced today that a national search for a new women's soccer coach has begun and Assistant Coach Gail Macklin has been named Interim Head Coach and will assume all coaching duties until the position is filled permanently.
Macklin, who served as the assistant coach for the past three seasons, replaces Matt Clark who resigned to take the head coaching job at Elon -- a move that provides an opportunity for his wife, Kim, to coach with her father, Rick Reeves at Gardner-Webb.
A former standout player at Southern Miss, Macklin was a member of the school's inaugural team in 1997. She played in 40 matches during her career, primarily as a midfielder, and scored nine points. She was also a member of the Northern Ireland National Team for six years.
