IRVING, Texas - Defending C-USA champion Memphis has been selected by the league's coaches as the preseason favorite to be the Conference USA Women's Soccer Champion in 2008. Colorado College junior forward Emily Beans and teammate Molly Uyenishi, a senior defender, were named the Preseason C-USA Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year, respectively.

The Tigers are coming off their first conference title and first NCAA Women's Soccer Championship appearance. Memphis returns three all-conference selections from a team that earned a school-record 17 wins (17-4-1) in 2007. Sophomore midfielder Vendula Strnadova, last season's C-USA Freshman of the Year and all-conference first-team selection, was voted onto the C-USA preseason squad along with teammates Kylie Hayes and Emiko Schwab. The pair of seniors both earned all-conference second-team honors last season.

UCF, who shared the C-USA regular season title with Memphis last season, was picked second in the coaches' preseason vote. Junior defender Nikki Moore and senior midfielder Hanna Wilde were selected to represent the Knights on the preseason all-conference squad. The duo led UCF to a 15-4-4 overall record and an at-large berth to the NCAA Championship.

Colorado College was chosen third by the coaches and tied Memphis for the most selections on the preseason team. Besides Beans and Uyenishi, who were both All-Conference USA first-team selections last season, the coaches also gave a preseason nod to sophomore Tiffany Brown. The defender was a unanimous selection to the C-USA All-Freshman Team last season and was a key to the Tigers' eight shutouts.

Rice was selected fourth and sophomore midfielder Kate Edwards, another unanimous selection to the all-freshman team last year, was voted onto the 2008 C-USA preseason squad. Edwards scored a team-high 10 goals last season (fifth in C-USA) as the Owls advanced to the semifinals of the 2007 C-USA Championship.

East Carolina senior goalkeeper Amber Campbell and Southern Miss senior forward Sarah McFadden round out the 11-member preseason team.

The top eight teams at the conclusion of the regular season earn a spot in the 2008 Conference USA Championship, hosted by Rice, on November 5-9 in Houston, Texas. The league's 14th season kicks off Friday, August 22.
